Every inground pool type can be beautiful. The right choice depends on your yard, how you want the pool to look and feel, and how you want to own it over the years. Here is how the three main types compare.
Custom gunite
Gunite pools are built on site, so the shape, size, depth, and features are designed around your backyard. That freedom makes gunite the natural choice for raised spas, sun shelves, custom steps, and integrated water features. The surface is finished in plaster or a pebble finish, which is refinished after many years of use.
Fiberglass
Fiberglass pools are factory-built shells, installed in a single piece. The installation path is more streamlined, and the smooth gelcoat surface is simple to care for day to day. The trade-off is that you choose from available shell models and sizes rather than designing a shape from scratch. We install the River Pools collection.
Vinyl liner
Vinyl liner pools use a sturdy wall system with a custom-fitted liner. They offer a soft surface underfoot and strong value, and the liner pattern can be refreshed when it is replaced, a chance to update the look of the pool.
How to decide
- If you want a one-of-a-kind design or integrated features, start with gunite.
- If simple everyday care and a faster installation matter most, look at fiberglass.
- If value and a soft finish lead, and you like the idea of refreshing the look over time, consider vinyl liner.
Tip
Your site matters as much as your preference: access, soil, slope, and drainage can all influence which path makes sense.
