Clear, comfortable hot tub water does not take much time. It takes consistency. A short routine each week, plus a few seasonal tasks, keeps the water inviting and protects your equipment.
Every few days
- Test the water with strips or a test kit, checking sanitizer and pH.
- Adjust sanitizer and pH as needed, following your water care system’s directions.
- Keep the cover on when the tub is not in use; it saves heat and keeps debris out.
Weekly
- Shock or oxidize the water, especially after heavy use.
- Rinse the filter cartridge to remove trapped debris.
- Wipe the waterline to keep oils and residue from building up.
Every few months
- Deep-clean or replace the filter cartridge as recommended.
- Drain, clean, and refill the tub; many households do this every three to four months, more often with heavy use.
- Clean and condition the cover so it seals well and lasts.
Tip
Shower before soaking. Lotions, oils, and soaps are among the biggest causes of cloudy water.
When the water looks off
Cloudy, foamy, or odd-smelling water usually traces back to sanitizer levels, pH, or a dirty filter. Bring a water sample to our pool store for in-store testing and advice, and see our water care products. For equipment problems, our hot tub service team can help.
